ILA Strike – effective October 1st, 2024, tens of thousands of members of the International Longshoremen's Association (ILA) are on strike at 14 major ports along the East and Gulf coasts and no cargo is moving in or out of those ports. It is not known how long the strike will last, or if the US Government will at some point step in and appoint a mediator.
This is the first time in almost 50 years the port strikes have officially taken place in the East and Gulf coasts. As a result, please expect delays in these regions until there is a resolution in place between the ILA and the U.S. Maritime Alliance (USMX). During this period, West Coast ports are still operational and open for trade.
Update: October 3rd, 2024
The ILA and USMX have agreed upon a tentative deal on wages and extended their existing contracts through January 15th, 2025 to provide time to negotiate a new contract.
Terminals/Ports will resume work and reopen starting Friday, October 4th, 2024. Please expect some delays caused directly and indirectly in the wake of the ILA Strike.
